Penwright dictating into Discord

Why it works

Communities live on posts. When typing slows you down, posts slow down with you. Penwright keeps the rhythm. Announce a release, answer a question, drop an insight, without your hands ever leaving the desk.

You say

hey everyone we just shipped a new version that fixes the crash on m1 macs running sonoma and also adds dark mode for the settings panel

Penwright writes

Hey everyone, new release out. Two things: • Fixed the crash on M1 Macs running Sonoma • Added dark mode to the settings panel

In the wild

Three moments in Discord where Penwright pays for itself.

The quick reply

Press the hotkey, speak the reply, Penwright types it cleanly into the open Discord window. Three seconds instead of three minutes.

The long-form message

Three minutes of speaking turn into a structured Discord message, cleaned, with paragraphs, in the right tone. No typing cramp.

The recurring template

Save your Discord standard replies as snippets, expand them by voice. The local dictionary learns your names, companies, acronyms.

Day one: setting Penwright up for Discord.

  1. Install Penwright

macOS 13 or later. Grab the .dmg from the download page, drop it in Applications, open.

  2. Pick your hotkey

Default is ⌘⇧Space. If Spotlight is in the way, set a conflict-free shortcut right away.

  3. Seed your Discord dictionary

Drop in the names, companies, codenames that show up in your daily Discord threads. Penwright will get them right from day one.

  4. Dictate your first Discord message

Open Discord, click into a text field, hold the hotkey, speak. Release. The cleaned version lands in the field.

Frequently asked

Does Penwright work in Discord?
Yes. Penwright types wherever your cursor lands in a text field, including Discord. There's no separate Discord integration; Penwright uses macOS' standard text insertion.
Are my Discord messages sent to the cloud?
No. Transcription and cleanup run locally on your Mac (EuroLLM 1.7B with Metal). If you flip Settings → AI & Style to Claude or OpenAI, then yes, but only when you explicitly activate it, and a visible CLOUD badge stays on while it is.
Does Penwright understand Discord-specific jargon?
Decent out of the box, perfect with your own dictionary. Add company names, people names, codenames once in Settings. Penwright will type them correctly into Discord from that moment on.
Do I need a fast internet connection?
No. Once the models are installed, Penwright works offline. Ideal for travel, airports, long calls.
